“Whatever a man sows, this he will also reap, for the one who sows to his flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” Galatians 6:7-8
This chapter is based on 17 verses in 9 passages of Scripture
Note: All Scriptures in parenthesis appear in my book, Revealing God’s Design with Love, or can be looked up in any Bible.
There is nothing in Scripture that indicates sexual disease or illness is God’s earthly judgment on those practicing homosexuality. God’s judgment only comes at the end of life, when we will all be evaluated according to our faith in Christ, and repentance of sins, no matter what they were or how many committed.
In as much as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment. Hebrews 9:27
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. II Corinthians 5:1
Nevertheless, even though judgment is reserved for the end of our lives, this doesn’t mean there won’t be consequences, like a disease, for our behavior. For example, those who practice unprotected heterosexual sex with multiple partners may contract, as a consequence, various infections like venereal disease, gonorrhea (clap), syphilis, and herpes. Some, who practice homosexual or heterosexual sex with HIV infected partners, may catch the HIV virus (AIDS).
What are God’s reasons for letting disease accompany sexual sin? Two reasons come to mind: the first is to get our attention about something wrong that we are doing. There is nothing like a disease, pain, or great discomfort to get our attention and God knows this.
A second reason is to get us to pray and depend on Him for help and salvation. Struggling with venereal disease, syphilis, herpes, or HIV can be very sobering and depressing, but it can also ignite within us a lot of soul-searching. If this soul-searching leads us into the kingdom of God, then what we had to go through was worth it. Living our lives goes far beyond this earthly existence; it is eternal, either with God or without Him.
As of this writing, HIV has claimed over 36 million lives worldwide, which is tragic. Hopefully many amongst those 36 million turned to God before they perished. Here are some Scriptures that possibly led them to put their faith and future with God.
If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth, he confesses, resulting in salvation. Romans 10:9-10
Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, also believe in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way where I am going. John 14:1-4
Not everyone who contracts a sexual disease has sinned. Regrettably, there are innocent victims of other’s sexual sins. There are those who have contracted the HIV virus via blood transfusions, and others who have contracted syphilis, gonorrhea, or herpes, because of an unfaithful husband or wife. I know of a mother of one of my past students who contracted AIDS because her husband had been unfaithful with another woman who had the HIV virus. The wife was devastated, to say the least, when she got HIV, although completely innocent.
Is this fair? No, it doesn’t seem so. Yet, for God to give every person on earth the chance to choose right or wrong, there will always be innocent victims like this mother. Fortunately for her, she had a very strong relationship with Christ when this happened, which helped her greatly in living out the remainder of her life. She was never angry with God about this realizing He had a full life reserved for her in heaven.
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven. Matthew 16:19
