God works all night

“The Lord caused the sea to go back…all that night”

Exodus 14:21

When God parted the Red Sea for the Israelites in order to save them from a vicious and advancing Egyptian army, best viagra purchase He did so all through the night, while the men, women, and children of Israel could see nothing.  All they could distinguish was what they heard, which was a roar of activity near the water’s edge which had hemmed them in. While the hours slowly slipped by during the night, the Egyptians were kept at bay by an incredible beam of light God provided to protect them. When morning finally arrived Israel was stunned, for they saw what God had been doing all night; the sea was parted, which provided a way of escape. The Egyptians, instead of retreating after seeing what God had done, sped forth, only to drown in the closing waters.

In this passage of Scripture there is a comforting message for us all who have put our trust in God in difficult circumstances, no matter how hopeless. The message is that God is often more at work in our lives when we cannot see what He is doing, like the Israelites who couldn’t see God during the night. They could hear what was going on, and so can we when we pray, read His Word, and seek the counsel of other Christians who have been where we are at the moment.

The next time dark times come into your life, when a whirlwind of troubling circumstances surround and envelope you from every side, when you can’t seem to see God anymore, remember He is very much at work to provide for you.  And when the morning comes, when the darkness in your life has passed, you will see His work, and be very thankful, pleased, and satisfied with what He did.   Until then listen to God working, even if you can’t see Him for the moment

Teachable Moment

If you have an opportunity to teach this lesson to children, pick a place where it’s dark. Go into a room if need be, and turn out the lights. Before you turn out the lights, tell your children that when the lights are turned back on, they will be able to open a special package of something they will really like in it. But also tell them you have to wrap their package while the lights are out. As you wrap, make as much noise as possible; perhaps you will anyway, it’s not easy to do things in the dark. As you wrap, ask them to guess as to what they think is in the package. This will of course make them very curious and excited, which is what you want when relating God’s Word to them.  Then turn on the lights after you are done wrapping and let them open their package and enjoy what’s in it.

Afterward relate what you just did, with the story of Israel at the Red Sea. Compare the darkness of your room to the darkness of difficult circumstances.  Link your packaging with how God works during dark and difficult times in all of our lives. Make sure your children get the point that God is often more at work when things are difficult.  Tell your children to be good listeners while waiting on God to make things better; by praying, hearing or reading the Word, and seeking your advice.

Finally, convey to your children that as the lights were turned back on when you were ready to give them their special package, so God does the same by bringing a morning light to all of our trials and tribulations.

“…Weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning.”

Psalm 3:5

Scripture Reference

As Pharaoh drew near, the sons of Israel looked, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they became very frightened; so the sons of Israel cried out to the Lord.  But Moses said to the people, “Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see again forever. “The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent.”  The angel of God, who had been going before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them.  So it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud along with the darkness, yet it gave light at night. Thus the one did not come near the other all night.  Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord swept the sea back by a strong east wind all night and turned the sea into dry land, so the waters were divided.  And then after Israel escaped through the  upheld waters, Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its normal state at daybreak, while the Egyptians were fleeing right into it,  The entire Egyptian army was thus destroyed, every soldier drown, not even one survived.  (Exodus 14:10, 13-14, 19-21, 27-28)
